Dr. Larisa Wainer is a licensed psychologist who specializes in providing psychotherapy to individuals, couples, and groups. She works with adolescents, adults, and older adults. With 20 years of experience in the mental health field, Dr. Wainer has training and interest in addressing a variety of issues related to: anxiety, marital and family relationships, sexual functioning, affairs, divorce, life transitions, grief and loss, depression, anger, bipolar disorder, social difficulties, sleep problems and trauma. She is also sensitive to issues of diversity, L.G.B.T.Q.I.A.+, and biculturalism/immigration/acculturation. In her work, Dr. Wainer utilizes psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and mindfulness-based approaches, tailoring treatment to the needs of her clients, in order to help them achieve relief from distressing symptoms and improve quality of life.
Dr. Wainer completed her B.A. in Psychology at Rutgers College, Rutgers University, where she graduated with honors and was awarded Phi Beta Kappa membership for her academic achievement. She obtained her M.A. and Psy.D. Degrees at the A.P.A.-accredited Clinical Psychology program of Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology, Yeshiva University and completed her doctoral internship at the A.P.A.-accredited New Jersey State Internship Program at Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital.
Prior to joining the Morris Psychological Group, Dr. Wainer had the opportunity to train in a variety of settings, including community, hospital and college counseling agencies. Her post-doctoral training has been in the private practice setting, specifically in the areas of psychotherapy and assessment. Dr. Wainer completed advanced training in sex therapy at the Council for Relationships in Philadelphia. She also provided instruction for Seton Hall University’s Online M.A. Program in Counseling and School Counseling.
Dr. Wainer maintains active memberships at the New Jersey Psychological Association and the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists.
