The Sport Psychology program offers a wide variety of services designed to benefit individual athletes, teams and coaches. We have helped athletes improve their mental skills and performance in numerous sports, including golf, tennis, baseball, basketball, football, soccer, hockey, swimming, diving, running, skiing, gymnastics and figure skating. We work with athletes at all levels of skill and development, from the amateur youngster to the world class athlete. Services we offer the individual athlete include:
- Assessment of the athlete’s current mental skills
- Increasing confidence and motivation
- Developing goals
- Improving concentration and focus
- Reducing performance anxiety and developing emotional control
- How to achieve optimal performance and play “in the zone”
- Learning how to more effectively cope with injury
- Balancing the demands of athletics with those of everyday life
In addition to working with individual athletes, the Sport Psychology program can also benefit teams and their coaches. We consult with teams and offer services that include team building and maintaining team cohesion, developing effective communication between coaches and players as well as between team members, and conflict resolution. We also offer workshops throughout the year on developing mental skills for specific sports in which a group of athletes or an entire team can participate. Two of the more popular of these workshops are the Mental Game of Golf and the Mental Game of Tennis.
We also are available to give lectures and workshops to schools and parent groups on such topics as Parenting the Student Athlete.
Our Sport Psychology program is led by Dr. Richard B. Dauber, a clinical and sport psychologist, who has been working with athletes for the past 25 years. Dr. Dauber can be reached at (973) 257-9000 ext. 203.
